Unlike other crushers which rely on impact, shear or attrition to reduce materials, jaw crusher makes use of compression of rocks between two opposing toggle plates. The two plates - one is movable and the other is fixed, are further apart at the top than at the bottom forming a tapered chute. As the movable jaw travelling downward, the rock is gradually reduced smaller and smaller until it is small enough to get away from the bottom opening.
